Sheet Music from the My Boogie Books Piano Series

Besides the three levels of boogie books offered by Hassamarra Publishing, five titles of fun piano sheet music in the same series are also available.

The first three songs listed here are from Level Two, all in the key of C:

Made in China is a long-standing favorite (and the easiest tune) from My New Boogie Book (the only one of these sheets that is also in a book.)  Beginners love the simple yet rhythmic flow of this boogie.  Each hand alternates with open fifths to get the beat going, and an easy melody finishes out each phrase.  If you have no need to purchase the entire level 2 book, this fun-to-play song would be a delightful addition to your piano music.

Another upbeat level 2 song is Lose Your Self.  It employs a common left-hand boogie pattern with 8th-notes played in swing style.  The song repeats with the left hand written one octave lower.  To keep the difficulty level low, the left hand only gets fancy when the right hand is still.

Rainy Day Blues is a slower, bluesier song. While it has a fairly complex rhythm in the melody (no 8th-notes though) and a few more accidentals, the tempo is slower, so it’s only mildly challenging for a beginner to play.

The other two songs are at Level 3.  Neither one has lyrics, but the titles are implied in portions of the melodies, giving creative students a jumping-off point for writing their own lyrics!

Shake Me out Some Stinky Cheese is in A minor, and is not technically a boogie.  However, since the boogie kids are so fond of shaky cheese, they saw fit to sponsor it anyway!  The chords are those often found in minor rock tunes (i, III, IV, iv, and V).  Combining a legato melody with “can-thumping” staccato will give the level 3 student a “minor” challenge!

Slightly Off the Wall alternates a swinging 8th-note right-hand melody with a left-hand boogie pattern, so each hand is busy at different times, with only a few overlaps.  Written in the key of C, it features a second half with the melody written an octave higher to familiarize the player with those higher notes.

Whether teacher, student, or simply a lover of fun piano music, you’ll have a good time with these easy, short tunes.  Remember: the My Boogie Books series is not just for kids!
