My Brothers & My Sisters
“Let us bring our gifts to the altar of God, together.” A simple SA song for Youth Choir (or two treble voices) reminds us that forgiveness is the Lord’s greatest lesson of love.
My Brothers & My Sisters is based primarily on this admonishment from Matthew 5:
“Therefore, if you bring your gift to the altar, and there recall that your brother has anything against you, leave your gift there at the altar, go first and be reconciled with your brother, and then come and offer your gift.”
Each of the three verses expresses forgiveness in a different direction: the first as a request to be forgiven, the second as forgiveness offered, and the third as a prayer to the merciful Father.
The song ends with a haunting “mantra refrain” of two overlapping phrases: “Let us love one another” and “Forgive us as we forgive each other.”
