Feature for August: My Boogie Books

   Hey, piano teachers!  Looking for something to give your students as a treat?  Something fresh for fall?  Maybe a little spark to reignite their desire to learn the piano?  The My Boogie Books series from Hassamarra Publishing may be just what they need!  

   You can browse through three levels of Boogie & Blues in both books and sheet music on the Boogie Books webpages.  As soon as your students know the notes between F and G on each side of Middle C (“Middle C Position”) they’ll be ready for Level One, My First Boogie Book.  Easy 12-bar tunes awaken the beginner’s sense of rhythm, while lyrics help establish the flow and fun of the song.  Level Two, My New Boogie Book, uses the 5-finger positions in C, F, and G, finally mixing them all together by the last few songs in the book.  Level Three is Where’s My Boogie Book?  It has slightly more advanced songs that will gently coax your students away from the “position” mindset.  In all three levels, each song has an imaginative line drawing that adds to the impression of carefree practicing.  Don’t be surprised if boogie time becomes the favorite part of the lesson!

   Most importantly, these books will advance your students' skills before they realize what has happened!   My Boogie Books have nothing to write and no explanations to memorize, which is especially helpful for those students whose eyes glaze over at anything that resembles schoolwork.  But that doesn't mean your students won't be learning!  A sharp here, a quick move out of position there, major, minor­...lessons to teach on every page, even though the music looks like it's only meant to be for a good time.

   The three books are reasonably priced at $6.50 each, and the sheets sell for $1.95.
